Kybella

Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved, non-surgical injectable treatment that permanently melts the fat in the neck area, most commonly referred to as “double chin.” Removing this fat gives patients a tighter, smoother and more youthful appearance. A double chin is very common and often related to weight gain. However, even after losing weight, some people may retain excess fat under their chin. Our genetics may also play a role, making a double chin inevitable and completely unresponsive to weight loss. Finally, as we age, we lose elasticity in our necks, causing the skin to sag. That, coupled with a slowing metabolism, can also cause fat to accumulate.

Ideal Candidates

You may be an ideal candidate for Kybella if you have excess fat below the chin area–technically referred to as “submental fat”– and are looking to regain a more youthful appearance.

An initial consultation with Dr. Minton is the first step to any procedure. There he will discuss your health history.

The Injection Procedure

The procedure for Kybella is fairly simple and relatively painless. After a thorough cleansing, Dr. Minton may apply a topical anesthetic to your neck area to prevent discomfort, though this discomfort is usually mild. Dr. Minton then uses a very thin needle to inject doses of Kybella into the areas of the neck he has carefully determined will yield the best, most natural looking results. The dose and number of treatments varies from patient to patient; Dr. Minton will review the details of your personalized treatment in the initial consultation.

After The Procedure

The great thing about Kybella is that there’s no downtime. You can get back to your normal activities immediately, though there may be some initial bruising, redness or soreness. Kybella is not a one-time procedure, but rather a series of treatments; therefore, you won’t see immediate results. You will usually begin to see results after 2-4 treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kybella is a mixture of deoxycholic acid and organic compounds. Your body naturally produces its own deoxycholic acid. It’s the acid substance responsible for you being able to digest and absorb from food, just put to a new and exciting use.

Kybella is a very safe treatment with very few risks or complications. Most patients will only experience slight bruising or tenderness. However, Kybella should not be used on patients with a blood-clotting disorder or on women who are pregnant or nursing. Kybella should not be used with some medications, which is why it’s important to give Dr. Minton information about any and all medications you are taking.

After the initial consultation, a single Kybella session only takes about 15 to 30 minutes, but multiple sessions are required.

Because Kybella melts away the fat, the effects are permanent.

Like surgery, the effects of Kybella are permanent, but the treatment is much less invasive and more affordable than a neck lift, making it a good option for some patients. That said, surgical procedures like a neck lift tend to yield more dramatic results than non-invasive treatments. Dr. Minton can discuss your aesthetic goals with you to help determine the best course of treatment.
